politics and communication

Hey YOU! Congratulations on becoming a student of politics and communications, you have really earned it! We know it wasn’t easy, but we are sure that to study here will make it worth your while.
Since the program of politics and communications consists of the studies of both communications and political science, there will be three student organizations waiting for you in the faculty. Media ry is for communication studies, Valtio-opin opiskelijat ry for political studies and the newest one, Valta ry is specifically for the students of the program of politics and communications. But don’t get confused, all you need to know is that they are all here for you!
Valta ry is being lead by it’s first democratically elected board that consists of thirteen members. Along with the board there is a lot of other students helping with the organizing of events and parties. It is very important for us that everyone finds something to do along with their studies and we as an organization try to guarantee the best possibilities for that to happen. Everyone’s opinions and ideas are valued!
Valta ry organizes different kinds of events: for example our traditional spring sits, many relaxed hangouts at Kuppala, visits at different enterprises, organizations and other places that may employ students of social sciences. It is also possible to play sports in different events or play in our own football team. We are sure you will find something for you and we can’t wait to spend time with you!
Equality and environment are themes we keep in mind in every event we organize. Everyone should feel welcome to come as they are and no one has to feel alone. Every organization in the faculty of social sciences has very strict set of rules on discrimination and bullying and we take safety seriously. We want to make everyone’s experience of university a pleasant one.
The tutors you may already have heard from via social media (and if you haven’t, go ahead and follows us on Instagram @polvituutorit) will be there for you during your first year of university. If there is anything on your mind, you can always contact your tutor. The tutors consist of older students of politics and communications and they are more than happy to tell you everything there is to know about studying in the university and also all the things happening outside the campus.
Once again, congratulations and welcome to the faculty! We will see you in the fall! The best times of your lives are waiting for you in the faculty of social sciences!
Regards,
Valta ry
